When John and Mary reached out to us, they had recently purchased a ranch home in a quaint Dauphin neighborhood. They were transitioning from a larger family home to a more manageable space for their retirement, but they knew the house needed significant customization to truly become their own.
What began as a simple request for new windows and doors quickly evolved into a comprehensive, whole-home remodel designed for long-term comfort, energy efficiency, and modern functionality.
The first phase focused on the home’s “shell” to improve protection and curb appeal:
Mastic Vinyl Siding & Insulation: We stripped the outdated aluminum siding and applied a modern house wrap, creating a superior air and moisture barrier. We then installed Mastic vinyl siding, providing a durable, low-maintenance finish that will protect the home for decades.
Structural Kitchen Lighting: To brighten the heart of the home, we installed a structural beam on the exterior kitchen wall, allowing for a new, oversized window that floods the space with natural light.
Premium Entryway: John and Mary selected a custom Provia fiberglass door with decorative glass, paired with high-performance vinyl windows throughout the home for maximum insulation and security.
We prioritized accessibility to ensure the home remains comfortable as John and Mary’s needs change over time:
Main-Floor Laundry: We relocated the washer and dryer utilities from the basement to a convenient upstairs closet, eliminating the need to navigate stairs for daily chores.
Walk-In Shower Conversion: We removed the original high-walled bathtub and reconfigured the plumbing for a functional, modern shower with a sleek glass door.
Durable Flooring: We replaced the old floors with Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) for its durability and slip-resistance, while installing plush new carpeting in the bedrooms for a cozy feel.
To bring the interior aesthetic up to date, we focused on high-quality, handcrafted finishes:
Custom Woodwork: We replaced a rickety wrought-iron basement railing with a modern wood railing and square balusters, custom-built by our carpentry lead, Dan.
Quartz Vanities: The bathroom was finished with a new vanity featuring a unique, custom-cut quartz top.
Modernized Systems: The project was rounded out with a reconfigured electrical layout for better lighting, new interior doors, and a fresh, professional paint job throughout.
We are thrilled to have helped John and Mary turn their “downsize” into a “right-size.” This Dauphin ranch is now a beautiful, functional retreat where they can enjoy their retirement with total peace of mind.
