Historic Restoration: Porch, Bathroom, and Windows on Verbeke St

Historic Restoration: Porch, Bathroom, and Windows on Verbeke St

One of the greatest compliments we can receive is a neighborhood referral. After seeing the historical restoration we completed for Esther on Boas St., Alison reached out to us regarding her own home on Verbeke St. in Harrisburg. Her backyard porch was structurally failing, her bathroom floor was unstable, and her original windows were no longer operational.

Structural Porch Restoration & Custom Milling

The existing porch was a safety concern, requiring a complete structural overhaul.

  • Reframing & Roofing: We carefully propped up the existing roof, demolished the deteriorating porch, and reframed the entire structure. To ensure it stays dry for decades, we installed a new, high-durability rubber roof.

  • Custom PVC Milling: To maintain the historical character without the maintenance of wood, we milled new PVC balusters and railings that perfectly matched the original profiles.

  • Decorative Details: We also custom-milled new decorative corner pieces from PVC. The entire project was finished with a fresh blue paint to preserve the home’s classic look.

Functional Bathroom Modernization

The bathroom required more than just a cosmetic face-lift; it needed a complete overhaul.

  • Subfloor & Flooring: We removed the shifting tile and stabilized the area with waterproof Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), providing a durable and “click-steady” surface.

  • Plumbing & Vanity: We reconfigured the old, inefficient drain and supply lines that had been carved through the previous cabinetry. We installed a high-quality Wolf plywood cabinet vanity, topped with a beautiful Classic Rock quartz remnant that Alison hand-picked from their Mechanicsburg showroom.

Historical Window Replacement (Andersen Woodwright)

To satisfy the aesthetic requirements of the Harrisburg historic district while providing modern performance, we turned to the Andersen Woodwright line.

  • Fibrex Technology: We installed Woodwright Fibrex windows, which feature a durable composite exterior and a traditional wood interior.

  • Exterior Restoration: We didn’t just swap the glass; we scraped and repainted the original sills and lintels, and replaced the exterior trim pieces to ensure a weather-tight, historically accurate seal.

The Result

This project was about more than just repairs; it was about preserving the architectural integrity of Harrisburg. Alison now has peace of mind and a beautiful, historically accurate home. We love making Harrisburg more beautiful, one building at a time!
